Grass is growing under my feet, in a good way!  Recreation has been made a priority by County Council in the past four years.  We adopted a Recreation Master plan, formed a Recreation Committee, purchased land, and received over a $1 million dollars in grant money.  The ground work has been done to accomplish many great things over the next four years.

As the Chairman of the Recreation Committee, I pledge to grow and improve our facilities countywide.  Working with County Council and staff, I promise to fully implement the Recreation Master plan and have a top rated recreation program in South Carolina.

Recreation is for all ages.  Plans are to add walking tracks, tennis courts, soccer fields, etc., in the near future to meet the needs of our community.  Several enhancements are currently underway, including more public recreation facilities on Lake Wateree.

Work is beginning on Phase 1 of the new sports complex in West Wateree.  Families will be playing on new facilities as early as this year.  This park is going to set the standard and elevate expectations for our entire recreation program.  Regardless of how long it takes, we are committed to doing it right.

There is a lot to do, please give me four more years to see the job done.
The main reason I ran for County Council four years ago was to make our community safer.  I have made good on that promise, but there is still more to do.

More cops are on the roads today, three more fire substations have been built, fire equipment is being modernized, and a new law enforcement center is being built as a result of positive, effective leadership.

Expanding fire service throughout the county is a growing need.  A new substation in Salt Pond may be necessary to reduce insurance costs.  Whether it is more funding for training or equipment or personnel, I am committed to support our public safety personnel.

County Council works with the Lugoff Fire District to insure they are provided adequate funding.  They have received full funding over the past four years, and I pledge to continue to support their hard work.

Property has been purchased and clearing is underway to begin construction on the new law enforcement center beside Shoney’s in Lugoff.  Expanding our Sheriff’s facility is going to have a direct impact on solving crimes faster.  This means you are safer.

Please, give me four more years to see that the Law Enforcement Center is built right for you.
Success is not an accident.  I voted to do an economic master plan three years ago to identify the best ways for our community to attract new business.  With the plan now in place, we are adding the infrastructure to go after and recruit new jobs.

Our planning is paying off.  Recently, Kershaw County was placed in the top tier of counties by the SC Department of Commerce in job creation.  We were ranked above Charleston, Spartanburg, and Horry counties.

Quality jobs have been added to our community over the past four years.  Kawishima, Forgitron, and Hengst are just a few new companies that our county government attracted.  Dana Corp., Yutaka, and Invista are three companies that have expanded as a result of positive leadership from the top down.

My work, along with the other members of County Council, has now placed a new commercial park at the I-20 Elgin interchange.  We now have land to attract new jobs at all four interchanges along I-20.

Leadership, planning, and action are getting results.  Our industrial tax base is growing.  This means our property taxes can remain lower and jobs will be here in the future for our children to work.

Please, give me four more years to attract more jobs and build the Elgin park.
